Centered beneath the Timber Transfer, halfway between the two tracks it straddles, is this
steel lug. It apparently has its own concrete foundation...I didn't dig down to find out.
I'm guessing that this lug was used to temporarily secure the crane hook as freight cars
were moved underneath the Timber Transfer, rather than taking the time to draw up the
hook above the tops of the cars?? If anyone has a better explanation of what this lug was
used for, I'd like to hear it!!
